Physically preparing for SHTF.

When we talk about SHTF and prepping for it, we almost always talk about food storage and gear. We never talk about the physical aspect of preparing for TEOTWAWKI. How far can you walk? How far can you run? How much can you lift?

I pray that none of these survival scenarios that we prepare for ever happens, but if it does, life is not going to be easy. Are you going to be physically able to forage, garden, hunt, fight or flee in any kind of weather or environment? You are going to have to, so you might as well start preparing physically too.

I must say, before you start any kind of exercise routine, I recommend getting a thorough check up by your health care provider to see if you healthy enough to exercise. Once you get the go ahead there, start out simple ...

raw honeyThe benefits of honey are numerous and it has been used for thousands of years not only for it's nutritional value, but for it's medicinal uses as well.

Raw honey is a natural product of the honeybee and is considered the best and most beneficial form of honey. The recorded use of honey as a food and medicine goes back to at least 500 BC. It is mentioned in the bible more than any other food product.

The benefits of honey and its uses

  1. Use for a quick boost instead of a caffeinated, energy drink. The glucose in honey is absorbed quickly for that immediate boost, while the fructose is absorbed more slowly for a more sustained effect.
  2. For sore throats and coughs. Some studies have shown that honey, especially buckwheat honey, is better at helping to alleviate coughs than some medicines like dextromethorphan and diphenhydramine.
  3. Honey is ...

Gardening is one of the most important skills a prepper can learn. If you ever have to endure a long term SHTF scenario, you will need a sustainable, renewable source of food. A home garden will provide a family that need.

When it comes to gardening, many people simply go to a greenhouse or local nursery and buy plants for their garden, but what will you do if that source doesn't exist anymore. You will need to have seeds so that you can grow your own seedlings.

Hybrid Seeds

There are basically three different types of seeds in the market today. First you have "hybrid" seeds. Hybrid seeds come from companies that produce a seed by artificially cross pollinating plants of different varieties in a controlled setting. Hybrids are designed to bring out the characteristics of certain varieties and blending them with qualities of other breeds to produce a ...

Obama's attorney general, Eric Holder, admitted yesterday that he and the administration believe that it is possible to use drone strikes to kill Americans on American soil.

Unbelievable, but true. I wrote about this 9 months ago and we now know that the insane notion of a president ordering the assassination of an American citizen could come true.

Some startling comments below by Holder leave me to believe that this administration would have no problem justifying such action.

"The president could conceivably have no choice but to authorize the military to use such force if necessary to protect the homeland,"

"it is possible, I suppose, to imagine an extraordinary circumstance in which it would be necessary and appropriate under the constitution and applicable laws of the United States for the president to authorize the military to use lethal force within the territory of the United States,"

These types of ...

Almost anyone who preps can tell you what a "bug out bag" is but few have probably thought about what they would do if a disaster happened while they were they were at work, out shopping or away from home doing normal daily activities. Do you have a plan and the necessities to get back home? You need to put together a "bug home bag".

Most people go about their daily business within a 30 mile radius of their home. If a disaster were to happen you need to prepare for possible road blockages, bad weather, violence and chaos depending upon the season and where you are.

I recommend planning for at least a 3 day walk and survival time to get back home. I happen to work in an suburban office environment about 20 miles from my home in the country. I wear a suit everyday to work and ...

I am so sick of hearing politicians and the media spinning their message on gun control and the Second Amendment. They try and rationalize their gun grabbing scheme by saying that our second amendment rights won't be violated by bans on weapons, because we will still be able to hunt and enjoy shooting sports without semi- automatic **"assault weapons".

Let me tell you something, the Second Amendment has nothing to do with hunting or shooting sports!!

Our forefathers lived under a tyrannical system. They knew that when we were finally free from it, that there was always the chance that those elected to govern (not rule) would overstep their mandate and try to take complete control and power over those that they were supposed to represent. The evil, power hungry, domineering side of human nature can raise it's ugly head anytime a government is given too much power ...

A farm subsidy bill that helps keep the cost of milk to consumers low is set to expire. Some industry experts believe that milk prices could soar to 7 or 8 dollars a gallon, almost double what they are now. Here's how to lock in low prices now.

If you and your family use a lot of milk, I would suggest trying dry, powdered milk. The prices on dried milk seem high, but when you look at how much milk you can get from a pail of powdered milk, it's really economical compared to the coming prices you're about to see for fresh milk.

For example, you  can buy a 29 lb. pail of non-fat dried milk for about $120 or less if you buy in quantity. Each pail will make over 37 gallons of milk which gives you a cost of about $3.25 a gallon ...

Just like bees to honey, the mass media and liberal politicians have jumped all over the tragedy in Newtown Connecticut. A horrific loss to all mankind will be used to pursue an agenda that has been going on for decades.

The lefties are blaming guns for this hideous crime. Yes, the gun, that inanimate piece of metal with wood or plastic that can't think, move or do anything without human input. The old saying that "guns don't kill people, people kill people" is so true and it's time people realize that a gun is only as dangerous as the person using it.  There are thousands of gun laws on the books. Some of the most strict laws are in Chicago where gun related crimes occur so frequently that it's nearly impossible to keep track of them.

The most dangerous weapon in the world is not a ...

When it comes to home security, one of the first things that comes to mind is a home alarm system. If you've been prepping, you probably have a fair amount of money invested in preps and the last thing you're going to want to have happen is for someone to break in and take your supplies.

A few years ago, I decided it was time to look into a home alarm system. There are numerous companies out there with all kinds of systems. Many of them will advertise a low system price with free installation or some other gimmick to reel you in, only to find out when the salesperson shows up that the system with everything you'll want is going to cost $1000-2000 or more. On top of that you will be required to sign a contract for monitoring that will run anywhere from $35 to ...

Over the last few years, the United States has been pummeled with freakish storms and dangerous weather. Well it's time to start preparing for another possible historic storm that many computer models are now predicting for the Mid-Atlantic / Northeast area early next week.

Hurricane Sandy is now predicted to head north and at some point turn inland. Previous models had her turning out to see, but that scenario is now changing. The storm could bring extreme winds, heavy storm surges, heavy rains and possible heavy snows from Western Pennsylvania to Western New York. Major, widespread power outages would occur if such a scenario plays out..

Don't wait to prepare for this one, as the word gets out and predictions become more certain, supplies will rapidly disappear in the stores. Stock up on food, water and fuel. Top of gas tanks, check batteries in flashlights and make sure your ...

As you probably know, I am a big believer in stocking food, but I am an even bigger believer in producing the food that you stock and store. Why? Unless you have a warehouse of stored goods, the stockpile of food you have will eventually be depleted. When a long term or permanent SHTF situation occurs, you are going to have to learn to grow the food you eat and you are also going to have to learn how preserve it for storage.

I hope you have taken steps to learn to garden and have made plans to raise chickens for meat and eggs. These are two of the easiest ways of producing food for you and your family. But what do you do when you harvest your food? Will your food stores be able to last without electricity? canning suppliesFreezers and refrigerators will not work without it. I highly recommend ...

When the SHTF, you had better be able to provide food for yourself as stores will be empty in no time. Options are available for just about anyone with a yard. Aside from learning to garden and having a supply of heirloom seeds on hand, you will need to have a source of protein.

raising chickensAside from meat, eggs are also a super source of protein. The chicken is fast becoming the most popular option for preppers and for good reason; they produce eggs and meat! Raising chickens is easy and fun. Anyone can do it.

A few other benefits to raising chickens is that they are great at keeping the insect population down and produce organic fertilizer for the garden.

It's easy and inexpensive to get into raising chickens. All you need is a chicken coop and a back yard big enough for them to roam or a moveable ...

ObamaObama's executive orders are becoming more and more frightening with each and every stroke of his pen. As pointed out in a recent article by the Free Canadian Press,( it doesn't appear that you will find this story in the American media) Obama's pattern of executive orders seems to be aimed at giving him absolute power during what "he" deems to be a national crisis.

From Joseph and Doug Hagmann:

After reviewing this order, one is forced to wonder whether the actual function of this order is to assure continuity of communications during an actual emergency, or if this order is designed to expand the control of all communications by implementing measures that redefine crises and emergencies. In the context of the most recent orders implemented by the stroke of his pen, it would appear that Obama is more concerned with command and control than ensuring continuity ...

As is often the case, it's usually the unimaginable that catches people off guard. Who would have thought that a "land hurricane" could disrupt  millions of peoples lives in just a 24 hour period. The strange weather that has affected millions in Ohio, West Virginia, Virginia and Washington DC has caught many people without any preparations what so ever.

No electric for up to two weeks, gas stations have run dry, food in the stores have disappeared. I'm sure we'll soon start to hear stories of looting and crime.

This recent weather nightmare is just another reason that everyone needs to be prepping to some extent. Wouldn't life be a bit easier for everyone in these affected areas if they had a bit of backup fuel, food and water? If you think prepping is just for loony end of world, SHTF, TEOTWAWKI believers, think again. Weather ...

natural disasterAt the very least, everyone should have a minimum amount of supplies on hand to get through common disasters like hurricanes, tornadoes, snow storms, etc. These types of emergencies are common and occur somewhere in the US on a regular basis. Preparing for this type of emergency is inexpensive and easy.

From Natural News:

There are only so many outcomes after a disaster, and your emergency response preparedness is critical to how well you thrive. How you stock supplies in your safe room can save your life.

In the event you're injured, but still conscious, you'll need to be able to reach first aid and other critical supplies. Go into your safe room and stand or sit in the place where you think you'd be during a disaster. Everything you stock should radiate outward from where you are, with the most critical needs within reach. Assume the ...

It's just another example of how the citizens of this once free country have become complacent and accepting of a police state that tramples the most basic rights of each and every one of us for the supposed greater good.

From Eric Peters:

In Aurora, Colorado, police searching for suspected bank robbers locked down an entire intersection, dragooned 40 random motorists out of their cars at gunpoint, handcuffed them and “asked” for permission to search their vehicles.

The action itself is startling: 40 people, guilty of nothing more than proximity, of being in the same general area where a suspected criminal might also be, are literally pulled from their vehicles, shackled and detained for more than two hours – even after it was obvious they were guilty of no crime at all.

Even more startling, however, than these over-the-top tactics is the fact that (apparently) every one of these 40 ...

The use of drones here in the United States is fast becoming a major concern for all freedom loving Americans. Drones in America will soon be Big Brothers all-seeing eye. They are small, quiet and for the most part, undetectable by those being watched. We have no real idea what data is being gathered and how it is being used, but I can assure that it's not for the benefit of you and I, but for the benefit of Big Brother and the total control of those they want to "rule" rather than govern.

One of America's brightest legal minds and true Patriot, Andrew Napolitano has given a very dire warning (a must read) on the proliferation of drone usage in America.

.....my outrage at the coming use of drones - some as small as golf balls - to watch us, listen to us and record us. Did you consent ...

This may not be news to you since most of us know this first hand, but the number is astonishing.

From CNNMoney.com:

The average American family's net worth dropped almost 40% between 2007 and 2010, according to a triennial study released Monday by the Federal Reserve.

The stunning drop in median net worth -- from $126,400 in 2007 to $77,300 in 2010 -- indicates that the recession wiped away 18 years of savings and investment by families.

The reality of it all is that this number may be low. This study, which was just released, is now over a year old. How much more damage has been done since then? With no end in sight to our economic woes and another recession lingering around the corner, we could soon see numbers indicating a total loss of net worth by a large portion of Americans.

A recent article by Stanley Kurtz exposes another sordid relationship that other mass media outlets have obviously ignored about Obama's radical past.

We all know about ACORN, Jeremiah Wright, Bill Ayers, Bernadine Dohrn, Milt Rosenbeg and others, but we now find out that Obama was a member of the "New Party", a socialist entity who's main goal was to turn America into a European, social democracy.

From the National Review Online:

Recently obtained evidence from the updated records of Illinois ACORN at the Wisconsin Historical Society now definitively establishes that Obama was a member of the New Party. He also signed a “contract” promising to publicly support and associate himself with the New Party while in office.

Minutes of the meeting on January 11, 1996, of the New Party's Chicago chapter read as follows:

Barack Obama, candidate for State Senate in the 13th Legislative District, gave a ...
