Hundreds, possibly thousands of people had contact with the doctor who despite having Ebola symptoms for days used the New York Subway System, went bowling at a trendy New York bar, used multiple forms of public transportation, and visited the High Line park in Manhattan.

In the second suspected terror attack this week in Canada, gunmen opened fire near the Canadian parliament shooting one soldier and then running into a parliament building nearby, continuing the attack. Canadian authorities are looking for as many as three gunmen, and the entire area has been shutdown.

There is a real crisis in our country when it comes to preparedness. When it comes to fighting disease outbreaks, pandemics, or any threat to our safety, the government IS NOT READY. You better be, because you need to be your own first responder!

As the federal government refuses to take the necessary steps we need to take to protect the public form Ebola, a number of West African countries have either beat the disease or limited its spread; they did so by closing their borders.
